A Few Things About Me

Mervyn Dinnen
I am Content and Community Manager for Jobsite UK.
Previously I had been a billing 3rd Party Recruiter for more than 20 years. From rolodexes to databases, faxes to e-mails to social media I always tried to find great people for great companies.
I firmly believe in building consultative, value added partnerships through performance, delivery, reputation and advocacy.
The sectors I recruited in included HR, Finance, Sales & Marketing and Recruitment to Recruitment. Clients ranged from global corporates to SMEs, private sector, public sector, not for profit.
I originally qualified as an accountant, but was bored and moved into recruitment after a career coach said that I was more suited to sales, PR or marketing!
Early in my recruitment career I set up an Accountancy Recruitment business that was voted Accountancy Recruiter of The Year by readers of an accountancy magazine.
Two years ago I set up a Twitter account. It changed my life! Whilst not as prolific as some tweeters my family would readily describe themselves as Twidow and Tworphan!
I’m sure the future is social!
I started this blog in October 2009. It has just been voted one of the Top 5 recruitment blogs in the UK.
Last year I appeared on BBC News talking about how what you say on social media sites can impact on your job.
When not recruiting, networking, tweeting or blogging I am most passionate about Arsenal Football Club, music, politics and economics.
I have recently been described as an ‘encourager par excellence’ (by Doug Shaw and Alison Chisnell) and ‘a great conversationalist’ (by Maren Hogan). I am humbled by those descriptions but mention them as they probably sum up my approach best…it’s great to know it works!

I love the focus and mission of your blog and I’m very happy I found it through a ping back to my own. Please post often..
great blog, just set up on my own after 5 years working for other companies so it’s great to hear other recruiters talking about the industry and finding a place to pick up tips etc!
Thanks for the kind words Jessie and good luck with your new venture! Happy to share thoughts and ideas.
Excellent Blog Mervyn! I’m glad that I came across this. Keep up the good work.
